What we collect
Driftwatch is the data controller for the personal data described here. We collect only what's needed for how you interact with this site or engage us:
- The free carbon footprint calculator. An email address, and optionally a company name, before showing your result.
- The UK CBAM supplier calculator. The figures you enter stay in your browser. If you choose to ask for a follow up, we receive your email address, an optional company name, and the sector, the country if you selected one, the commodity code and the two emissions intensity figures shown in your result. We do not receive your production volume.
- A direct enquiry. Whatever you include when you email us or book a call, typically your name, email, and details of what you need.
- A commissioned engagement. If you go ahead with a Carbon Reduction Plan, an embodied carbon assessment, or UK CBAM supplier readiness, the project data needed to do that work, such as energy bills, drawings, bills of quantities, or production and process data, plus the contact details of whoever we're liaising with. This is business data supplied under the engagement, handled under the confidentiality terms agreed with you, not personal data collected from browsing the site.
We also count visits to this site using Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookieless tool that records page views, referring sites, country and device type. It does not use cookies, does not track individual visitors across sites and does not build visitor profiles. No advertising pixels. The UK CBAM supplier calculator and the embodied carbon estimator run in your browser, and the figures you enter are not sent to us.
How we use it
To follow up on a calculator result or respond to an enquiry, and if you choose to proceed, to scope and deliver the work you've asked for. Nothing is added to a marketing list without asking you separately first.
Legal basis
We rely on legitimate interests to follow up on a submission or enquiry, and on consent for anything beyond that, such as future marketing.
Retention
We keep enquiry and calculator data only as long as needed to follow up, or for the length of a working relationship plus a standard period for accounting purposes. You can ask us to delete it sooner, see Your Rights.
Sharing
We don't sell or rent personal data. We use a third-party email hosting provider to run our inbox, a website host to serve this site, and that same host's built-in form handling to receive calculator and enquiry submissions, all process data only on our behalf. The website host is based in the US, so submissions made through the calculator or contact form are processed there, under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses as the legal safeguard for that transfer. The contact page's booking calendar is provided by Calendly, who process the name, email and any details you enter when you book a call directly, as their own controller, under their own privacy policy.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies of its own, and its visit counting (Cloudflare Web Analytics) is cookieless. It loads fonts from Google's servers, which may log the requesting IP address as standard server behaviour, outside our control and not used by us for any purpose. The booking calendar on the contact page is provided by Calendly, which may set its own cookies to run the scheduling widget, outside our control, governed by Calendly's own cookie policy.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you can ask to see, correct, delete, or restrict use of your data, request it in a portable format, or withdraw consent at any time. Email us to exercise any of these, we'll respond within one month.
